October Canvas Create

So its 3:00 AM and I just completed Donna Downey's October Canvas Create.  I loved it.  I think it's not to bad for my first piece.  I will definitely be doing more of these.

I should have taken a picture of the canvas after I drew the flowers.  First picture is after using the glue gun.  The second picture is the final piece.

It's been 2 weeks since I last posted.  The first week, I was a bit tired.  Couldn't even find the energy to create.  I was partially down too.  See I have been teaching myself to draw faces and working with shadowing and became frustrated because I am a perfectionist and it just wasn't coming out the way I wanted it too.

My husband ended up helping and showing me some techniques on friday night.  Now I am 100% back.

I did create even when I was not at full capacity.

Here are a few things I worked on.

Home on the Range Collage

Suppliess used were Koi water color, and old dictionary, scrapbook paper, paper bag and fasteners(for bird eyes).

Many FACES

The above faces were done on cloth.  I gessoed the cloth first then drew the face and used water color to paint.

Mixed Media Rocks!

So this past weekend, I created a few pieces.

ANGEL
I have to first thank Christy Tomlinson for her She Art tutorial.  I found it on youtube and decided to have a try at it.  I had so much fun doing this piece.

Music to My Heart
The next piece I created was for my brother-in-law.  He is a musician and asked me to create something with music theme.

Supplies used: Sharpie, acrylic paints, canvas board, newspaper clippings, craft metal, cuttlebug embossing plate, scrapbook paper, cardstock, stencils, molding paste, mod podge, stamps

Lastly since this breast cancer week, I created this as a dedication.

SHE COURAGE!

This is entitled She Courage!
Shows a black woman who has survived cancer.  Her crown and glory (hair) is fuller than ever and she is ready to live her life.  Her experiences have only made her stronger.
Her earrings represent what she has been through (pink ribbon one ear and bra on the other).  Flower at the bottom is made of pink buttons for petals, green button for the leaf and a straight pin for the stem of the flower.

Supplies used: Sharpie, acrylic paints, canvas board, newspaper clippings, rub ons, packing tape transfers, glitter glue, buttons, straight pin, scrapbook paper, hospital tape

Happy Birthday "Mikkai THE GREAT"

Happy 2nd birthday to my prince.  These past 2 years have been amazing.  I know I gave birth to you and brought you into this world but honestly, you gave life to me.  I thank God every day for you and I pray that we (your mom and dad) continue to be around to see you grow.  You are truly our pride and joy.

Love you Kai Kai.

Mixed Media Pieces

So I am way overdue for posting.  I have always wanted to blog but for some reason nothing came to mind.  Until I decided to take crafting and mixed media art more seriously.  Now I have so many pieces to blog about, I just don't know where to start.  I may have to work backwards.
Let's start from my most recent mixed media piece

Casualty of War (9/14/2012)

Big Girls Dream Big (9/8/2012)

Soul on Fire (9/7/2012)
