Keeping the Momentum

The last time I posted was in June, but I have been keeping myself creatively busy.  Not sure how many of you know about my new project WISE ART.

I figured what better to keep myself bust than to start creating challenges with other women who love mixed media art just as much as I do.  I created a facebook group with for like minded women who sometimes need inspiration themselves or would like to celebrate other women through art.  The journey has been great.  Somewhat challenging but overall I am happy I have started it.  I just have to find a way to maintain it.

  WISE ART Monthly Challenges
 August Challenge:
Create a piece revolving around Mother Theresa's work or the person she is known for. This can be anything from fine art, poetry, mixed media, collage, sculptures...etc. Make it your own...

Deadline for posting your submission is September 1st.

September/October Challenge:
We will create an A-Z creative vision (CV) journal for ourselves.
The purpose of this book will be to remind you of who you are, and who you can be. It will serve as a constant reminder of your goals, your dreams and all that makes you happy. At the end of this project you should feel ready to conquer the world...hehe...I really hope everyone can participate...It's a powerful exercise.

1: You will need a blank journal (preferably a watercolor journal since the pages are stronger if in case you are going to paint). You are free to make your own journals from scratch if you like.

2: Every page will be a letter of the alphabet.

3: On each page you will doodle, collage, scribble, paint, write (etc) around a word that starting with that letter.

4: Each word should be something that will get you going, something that will INSPIRE you, something that will STRENGTHEN you, something that will EMPOWER YOU...

So that we keep on track, I am putting a deadline to create this as 10/16 giving us a month to complete. You are not held to this date but its a great way to get us to complete this.
If anyone is interested we will also be creating an event around this so that you can share with others and so that others can join

(pics will come after the journal is complete)

GIRLFRIEND CHALLENGES
In addition to that, myself and 2 of my girlfriends have created weekly challenges where we find objects or old works of art and try to recreate it, but with a twist.  The image we create has our artistic style, and by know means is a replica of the original.  The original is only used as inspiration.  This process has been fun as there are many times I want to create but don't know where to start.  In doing this we also end up not only Building but Keeping the Momentum.
A few pieces from our challenges

 ATC CHALLENGES
I have found myself participating in more ATC challenges as well.  Over this quarter I participated in 3.
1.  International Inspirational Deck Swap - Song Lyrics (52 Cards)

2.  Little Bird Creations - Theme Surrealism (10 Cards)

3.  Little Bird Creations - Theme: Circus (10 Cards)

One other great thing which has happened to me this quarter is that I had the honor of donating one of my pieces of art to a Breast Cancer Charity at Paris in A Cup.  I was so honored that it was loved.  I am waiting on feedback on how the charity went.  All the proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Association.

This quarter has been good to me Artistically and I am hoping to see what next quarter will bring.  I am one step closer to my goal of making my art a full-time career.

Hope I was able to motivate someone with my post today.

I leave with this:
“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide whether it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they’re deciding, make even more art.” – Andy Warhol

Till next time....

qu-ART-erly checkin!

So I have been way overdue with posting. However, I have been creating. (not as much as I would like to, but something is better than nothing).   I figure I will start checking in quartlerly  or should I say qu-ART-erly :)

Between the last time I posted and now, I have bought a house and went on a caribbean vacation with my husband...Both 2 very amazing occurrences in my life.  I also participated in a an ATC card swap challenge and went on an art retreat.

Below are some of my latest creations.  I am working on developing my Etsy store.  Hopefully I will have it open by the end of the summer. I hope I will be able to post more images before the summer ends.  Also check out the card swap Card Deck Swap.  It is amazing.  There is another one going on now.

Is Creating Art a Priority for You?

This week was very busy for me.  But I still got some time to paint and sketch.  I try to sketch as often as possible even if i don't paint.  I even carved my first stamp.  I guess that mean creating art has truly become a priority for me, especially since it keeps me balanced.

One of my favorite mixed media artist is Donna Downey.  I have taken some of her online classes and also participated in one of her projects.

The Altered Brush Project
I participated in Donna Downey's Altered Brush Project.  It was so much fun.  This is what I came up with below.  As you may already know, I have a fascination with drawing and painting faces. I also like painting flowers.  What better way to combine the two.
This piece is another Donna Downey inspired piece.  I used my pan pastels, and soft pastels with crumpled tissue paper.  I know that learning all of these techniques is preparation for something big (just don't know what yet).

Sketchbook Paintings
The pictures below were painted in my 11x14 sketch book.  I figured that in addition to creating on canvas that I will start painting on other substrates ie, paper, cardboard, glass and wood...

Create in Spurts

With my current schedule of being a full-time mom, full-time IT manager and owning an Kids Arts and Craft business, it so difficult to blog regularly.  So I have decided to blog in spurts...By this I mean I will post my new creations once a week moving forward.  It will cover everything I have worked on, thought of working on for that week.  I figure its atleast a start to getting me where I want to be this year.

Here are the first sent of my 2013 pieces.

Hello 2013..Just close your eyes, imagine, believe...CREATE!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Today is January 1st.  I can't explain how extremely excited I am about this year.  Great things will be happening.  Today I proclaim that I will prosper and my creativity will flow and bring abundant happiness, joy, inspiration and a spiritual connection with myself and God.  I hope to also bring happiness and joy to those who view my art.

Towards the end of last year, I started painting flowers.  I go throught bouts of creativity.  Sometimes I create women, houses, abstract pieces, through mixed media collage.

Why women you may ask?
Well, it's simple.  I am a founder of WWISE Art.
Women who Inspire Strengthen and Empower.  As women, we do so much to help others and I feel what better way to honor us than to put together creative pieces that shows our importance.  Women have done so much through out the years and I am so proud to be a woman.
Here is a sneak peek of some of my women I created:
A Star is Born

SHE LION
St. Lucian Creole Lady

I've also started painting flowers lately (but with a twist).  I try to focus on creating backgrounds that are not only fun but really bring out the flower.

Fully Bloomed Lotus

St. Lucian Hibiscus

Lotus Flower
Here are 3 of my most recent flowers.  I plan on creating more.

I plan on 2013 being the year that I take my art to another level.  Who knows, I may even start documenting my creative process and posting the videos.  The creative possibilities are endless. Hope you enjoy this ride with me.

My motto is "Just close your eyes, imagine, believe...CREATE!!!!"
