Today I just needed to vent.
Lately there have been too many videos/posts of parents and adults performing extremely cruel acts to kids. I am grateful for facebook's function where you can hide a post because I can not stomach these posts. Many may not agree but I do not believe that disciplining a kid means taking out your rage or anger on a kid in the HOPES that they will learn a lesson. Get a punching bag, smoke some weed, walk away...regroup and then confront the issue but damn, leave the kids alone. What is the lesson is to be learnt from cursing and WHIPPING a kid? (Note I said whipping and not spanking.) Now don't get me wrong I am a total believer of discipling children but seriously when a beating last 20 minutes or a kid has broken limbs and bruises is that really what raising a kid properly is about. I have read so many ppl say "well I was raised that way and I turned out fine". But did you really. Well I wasn't raised that way and neither were my siblings and we turned out great. No judgement to others but I believe that beating the mess out of a kid is taking the easy way out instead of getting to the route of the problem. Are there bad a$$ kids out there? Hell yea and I am not here to say how we should and shouldn't deal with them. But don't tell me that if you don't beat the sense out of a kid then he/she will go astray. I have seen more go astray because they got the sense knocked out of them (pun intended). Ever heard of "when the cats away the mice will play". I rather teach my kid to have sense than to fear the rod because guess what in the absence if the rod I know he will continue to have sense.
Bible says "spare the rod, spoil the kid". Quite sure it didn't say break the rod on a kid.
For those reading this, this is not a debate and you are free to your opinions of how you want to raise kids as I am free to mine.
I am just a mother who loves her kid more and more each day. Everyday I look at him I remember the joy of being pregnant and the joy of seeing his face for the first time, his first smile and how good it feels to get hugs from him. Now why would I want to damage that perfect being with graffiti like marks left from a whipping.
Funny how when a drunken person beats on a kid, its called abuse but a sober person performing the same act claiming to correct a kid will call what they are doing - discipline. Smh. #doublestandards
